In raids carried out island-wide 100 vendors were arrested for selling low quality ‘atapirikara’ items.

While the Consumer Authority had carried out these raids, the Cooperatives and Internal Trade Ministry said that legal action would be taken against the vendors concerned.

Vendors selling these low quality ‘atapirikara’ items were found from the Colombo, Kandy, Gampaha, Badulla, Galle, Matara, Anuradhapura and Nuwara Eliya districts.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa too had earlier given instructions that the Consumer Services Authority be made aware of the need for introducing disciplinary and legal methodology for the production and sale of ‘atapirikara’ items.
