Death toll of fishermen rises to 22; 28 still missing; rescue operations continue.

Fisheries Ministry announced that the death toll of the fishermen caught in the stormy weather has risen to 22.

 

Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aqua Culture Sarath Kumara Gunaratne said another 28 fishermen are still missing.

 

He said measures have already been taken to provide necessary relief to the families of the victims both dead and missing.

 

The Department of Meteorology forecasts that there is a decline in rain and wind during the next 24 hours.

 

Meteorologist on duty Pabodhini Karunapala said that however rough seas could still be expected off the South West costal areas.

 

Meanwhile several web sites which forecast global weather changes stated that there would be a decline in rain and wind that had affected the island and seas of its South Western coastal beld.
