The UNP stated that the government is trying to add new clauses to the 13th Amendment fearing that some of its coalitions would quit if the 13th Amendment is fully implemented.
Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella said that his party would not be ashamed at any time.
He said that the power should be dissolved if the country’s unitary and sovereignty needed to be protected.
Meanwhile the Organization for Objection of the Opposition sending a letter to Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya insisted to hold a free and fair election for the North Provincial Council.
The Organization also stated that the election in the North should be held before new clauses are added to the 13th Amendment.
The Organization for Objection of the Opposition further stated that foreign observers should also be invited to monitor the election in the North.
Meanwhile addressing a press briefing held in Colombo yesterday Investment Promotion Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapha said that certain powers vested in the 13th Amendment should be changed.
