Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe has made a request from President Rajapakse to allow a group of representatives including the opposition leader to have a discussion regarding the upcoming Northern Provincial Council Election.
In an epistle to the president Wickramasinghe had expressed his pleasure regarding the decision of the government to hold the elections in the month of September.
The opposition leader had also mentioned that this is upholding one of the proposals made during the UNHRC summit during this year.
The epistle sent to the president by the opposition leader also had included several points crucial to holding the election in a free and fair manner.
These included the abolishment of the 18th amendment and initiating the 17th amendment, strengthening the police commission, appointing of a civil servant to the post of governor in the North and inviting a group of commonwealth representatives to observe the election activities.
