The Cabinet today granted approval to remove the provision in the 13th amendment to merge two or more provincial councils during the cabinet meeting held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapkse.

Meanwhile a decision was taken to appoint a parliamentary select committee to discuss in depth regarding the other amendments proposed to be made to the 13th amendment.

The cabinet meeting held this morning was one filled with heated arguments.

Journalists questioned from Minister Rambukwella regarding this during the Cabinet decision press briefing held today.

Meanwhile, EPDP leader Minister Douglas Devananda had not taken part in the Cabinet meeting held today.

A cabinet minister speaking to our news team stated that President Rajapakse had informed that the UPFA party leaders will once again convene and discuss regarding the clauses that will be removed from the 13th amendment.
