Cabinet approved to pay compensations for the families of the fishermen who died or still missing in the rainstorm hit the Southern coastal area last Saturday.
During the press briefing to inform the Cabinet decisions held in Colombo today, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that 1 hundred thousand rupees will be paid each to the families of the victims.
Cabinet also approved to grant concession of 50 percent of the cost of repair to the affected boat owners who had not insured their vessels.
Meanwhile UNP MP Wijedasa Rajapaksha during a media briefing held in Colombo today said that the Saturday’s disaster could have been mitigated had the local weather authorities followed the US National Weather Service forecast.
During the JVP media conference MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake opined about Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera’s offer to resign from his post.
