The Government coalitions as well as the opposition political parties are preparing to shape up their future activities after the yesterday’s Cabinet decision on the 13th Amendment.
The Cabinet yesterday decided to repeal the clause of the 13th Amendment which empowers Provincial Councils to merge themselves into one administrative unit.
The Cabinet also decided to appoint a Parliament Select Committee to scrutinize the other matters of the 13th Amendment.
The NFF which opposes the 13th Amendment has called a meeting of its political bureau today to discuss its future.
NFF political bureau member Piyasiri Wijenayake told our news team that his party will take a final decision on how to respond to the yesterday’s Cabinet decision.
Meanwhile, media secretary of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, Nishantha Sri Warnasingha said that the JHU will be discussing about the subject today.
However, Left parties that vehemently reject the repeal of the 13th amendment consider yesterday’s decision taken at the cabinet meeting as a victory.
