The UNP is stating that the government is preparing to amend a clause in the 13th amendment that is non-existent.

UNP General Secretary Parliamentarian Thissa Attanayaka stated that although a sub clause was included in the amendment making provisions to merge two or more provincial councils, that clause became invalid after the 31st of December in 1988.

MP Attanayaka made this statement while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo today.

Meanwhile, the UNP General Secretary also stated that the president has the authority to dissolve a provincial council in the instance where it is acting against the constitution.
