The Electrical Engineers Association stated that the operation of the Kukuleganga Power Station has now been suspended.
The Association President Nandika Pathirage said that the producing of power was failed due to a defect in one of its turbines.
The Victoria reservoir reached its spill level due to heavy rain that lashed in the catchment areas during the last few days.
However, one of the three turbines of the reservoir was switched off for a sudden repair and consequent to the termination, the National Grid has lost 70 mega watts.
The National Electricity Consumers Movement stated that the Kukuleganga also contributes 75 mega watts to the National Grid, and due the closure of the two turbines, power has to be bought from the Private operated Thermal Power Plants.

However certain political parties charged earlier that there was a mafia operating inside Ceylon Electricity Board.
They pointed out that this particular mafia was also a major contributor to increase the electricity charges.
