Government sources state that the Central and North Western Provincial Councils will be dissolved in the first week of July and that the most probable date would be the 5th of July.

The government has decided to hold the Northern Provincial Council elections along with the elections for the Central and North Western Provincial Councils on the same day after the two provincial councils are dissolved.

If the provincial councils are dissolved in the first week of July the elections will be held on the 4rd or last week of September.

The elections secretariat stated that within a week of the President or the Governor issuing the notice to dissolve the provincial councils the elections commissioner will issue the gazette notice calling for nominations.

Nominations should be handed over within 14 to 21 days from that notice.

The election should be held within 5 to 8 weeks of nominations being handed over and accordingly the election would be held in the 3rd or last week of September.

However, it was previously stated that the election would be held on the 7th or 14th of September.
