The Gangodawila District Court has issued notices for 18 former members of parliament who were living at the official residences in Madiwela.

 

The Attorney General has filed cases against these 18 former MPs for not paying their utility bills while occupying their official residences.

 

The case was heard in the presence of District Judge Namal Bandara Balalla at the Gangodawila district court yesterday.

 

18 complaints have been filed by State Attorney at Law Sumedha Jayaweera Bandara of the Attorney General’s office.

 

The total value of the defaulted utility bills by the former members of parliament amount up to 8 million rupees and they have been issued notices to appear before courts on the 16th of July.

 

The complaint has been filed regarding the time period beginning on the 5th of December, 2001 and ending on the 7th of February, 2004.
