Parts of a mobile phone believed to be utilized during the abduction of millionaire businessmen in the Bamabalapitiya area to which former DIG Vaas Gunawardhana is suspected to be implicated were recovered today.

 

The parts of the mobile phone were recovered from a canal in the Maligawaththa-Keththarama area.

 

According to the Criminal Investigation Department the recovered mobile phone is suspected to have been used by Mohammed Siyam who is the deceased victim.

 

The assistance of Navy divers was obtained to recover the parts of the mobile phone.

 

According to a senior CID spokesperson a suspect under interrogation had aided police to discover the destroyed mobile phone.

 

The murdered businessman was abducted on the 22nd of May & his body was subsequently discovered while abandoned in the Dompe area.

 

The deceased businessman had left his home with an acquaintance of his who has been identified as Fauzdeen.

 

The family of the deceased businessmen had later informed police since he had failed to turn up at his residence as usual.

 

The suspect who had accompanied the deceased businessmen out of his house who is currently under remand custody had confessed to police that the mobile phone of the victim had been dumped to a canal in the Maligawaththa-Keththarama area.

 

Former DIG Vaas Gunawardhana & 6 other police officers have been placed under remand custody in connection to the incident and are due to be produced before court tomorrow.
