Plans afoot to strengthen Sri Lanka Pakistan defence ties

Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart arrived in Colombo on a three-day visit to the island.

 

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani paid a courtesy call to the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa, this afternoon at the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development premises.

 

Matters of mutual interests and bilateral relevance were discussed during the meeting between the Secretary Defence and the visiting Pakistani Chief of Army Staff.

 

The meeting also explored avenues of receiving more and more training opportunities for Sri Lankan officers in Pakistan, in addition to ongoing training programmes.

 

Discussions also focused on possibilities of broadening bilateral understanding and goodwill among officers of both organizations further.

 

Military spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya speaking to our news team elaborated further.
