The External Affairs Ministry has made an enquiry from the British High Commission in Colombo about the travel advisory issued to its citizens visiting Sri Lanka.

A Ministry spokesman said that the government will announce its next step in this regard after it receives a reply from the British High Commission.

A new travel advice issued yesterday warned the British tourists to Sri Lanka to be cautious as there is an increase in kidnapping and violent incidents in the recent past.

The travel advice quoted the UK official website as saying that political activities by anti-Western and nationalist groups are currently on the increase in the island.

The British government has also asked its travelers to Sri Lanka to avoid political meetings as violence could erupt at such places at any time.

It also warned women travelers to take particular care when they travel alone or in small groups.

The website also pointed out that the processing of law is rather slower in Sri Lanka than in the United Kingdom.
