Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena has asked the CID to take over the investigations into the substandard saline brand “Dextran 40 that has been found in Kurunegala and Homagama hospitals.
During a media briefing held in Colombo today director of the Pharmaceutical Supply Division Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe said the Minister had taken this decision after the Health Services Unions exposed about the substandard drug yesterday.
President of the Health Services Unions Federation Saman Ratnapriya told a media conference held yesterday that these substandard bottles of saline Dextran 40 are contained of certain white color components.
He also said that his federation has informed the respective hospital directors and the staff about this inferior drug.
However Director of the Pharmaceutical Supply Division Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe said today that instructions have already been issued to the respective hospital authorities not to issue saline Dextran 40 to patients.
