The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress is planning to contest the Northern Provincial Council Election independently as it did the Eastern Provincial Council Election.

Treasurer of the SLMC Parliamentarian Aslam Mohammed stated that a decision regarding this will be taken when the supreme council of the SLMC convenes in the near future.

The Ceylon Workers Congress, another party of the government alliance is planning to contest two districts in the Central Province independently.

Speaking to our news team Uva provincial councillor of the CWC Sendil Thondaman stated that the party plans to contest the Matale and Kandy districts in this manner.

However, the Front Line Socialist Party, a party that broke away from the JVP has so far not contested any election.

Upon inquiry by our news team whether the party is contesting the upcoming provincial council polls, its propaganda secretary Pubudu Jayagoda stated that a decision regarding this will be taken when the party’s central working committee convenes on Sunday.

Reports state that the Tamil National Alliance will be holding a special discussion regarding the choosing of a chief ministerial candidate.

Party sources state that either Mawei Senadhiraja or former Judge C. V. Vigneshwaran is most likely to be named as the chief ministerial candidates.
