The representatives of the All Island Common Fishermen’s Federation engaged in a protest in the Mirissa town this morning stating that there are issues in obtaining the fuel concession given by the government.

 

A tense situation arose when the representatives of the Mirissa Fishermen’s Society arrived on scene and disturbed the protest.

 

Our regional correspondent stated that the Weligama police eventually managed to restore order.

 

However, representatives of the All Island Common Fishermen’s Federation expressed their views to our news team in the following manner.

 

 

The Mirissa Fishermen’s Society representatives who disrupted the protest expressed the following views to our news team.

Meanwhile, a fisherman who hails from the Aluthwaththa region in Chilaw had disappeared when 2 boats toppled in Chilaw.

 

Our regional correspondent stated that the accident took place when the boats were launched to go out to sea.

 

The Chilaw fishermen claim that the Chilaw river mouth being filled with sand is the reason for these accidents.
