The Department of Elections is considering to replace wooden voting boxes with plastic boxes.
Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya told our news team that the department is considering the idea but it has not taken a final decision.
He said the department will have to spend a large sum of money to introduce plastic voting boxes, but at the same time, it is also costly to repair wooden boxes as well.
He said plastic boxes would last longer than wooden boxes, and this matter was taken before the party secretaries meeting held last Friday.
Meanwhile PAFFREL has started its initial work with regard to the Provincial Council elections.
Executive Director of the PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi had this to say.
