A new alliance demands separate solution to upcountry issues.

Several political parties formed a new alliance today as the Provincial Council elections and the powers of Provincial councils have become the talk of the town.

 

The agenda of the new alliance, The Up-Country National Front is to pressure the government not to make changes to the 13th Amendment and for the obtaining of a separate solution to the problems of the up-country people.

  

The new alliance which was formed today in Colombo is represented by the Democratic People’s Congress led by MP Prabha Ganeshan, Up-country People’s Front led by MP V. Radha Krishnan, Labour Revolution Front led by MP T. Ayiaturai and Democratic Leftwing Front represented by Minister Wasudeva Nanayakkara.

 

After the formation of the new alliance, leader of the Democratic People’s Congress MP Prabha Ganeshan said that in the effort of finding a solution to the National Problem, the people upcountry needs a separate solution to their problems.

 

 

Meanwhile addressing a public gathering held in Dambulla, JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said that certain parties in the government who threatened to quit if the 13th Amendment is not changed are still stuck to it.

 

 

However NFF Media Spokesman Mohamad Mussamil said during a media conference held in Colombo today that although the JVP protested against Provincial Council system in the past, today it is silent.

 

Meanwhile addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake reiterated the need of replacing current administration in the North with civil administration before the forthcoming Provincial Council election.
