Petroleum Industries Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said that the government decided to buy a stock of 25 thousand Metric Tonnes of Octane 90 petrel which was rejected earlier after it was found to be substandard.

This stock was cleared and approved at the second test.

The Octane 90 stock and other 5000 Metric Tonnes of Octane 95 petrel which were imported by Petroleum China were found to be substandard at the first laboratory test.

However the second test confirmed the 5000 Metric Tonnes of Octane 95 is still lacking its standards, so it was rejected.

During a media conference convened to explain the developments of the controversial petroleum deal, Petroleum Industries Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa had this to say.

Meanwhile Chairman of the Petroleum Corporation Tilak Collure has resigned from his post.

He has handed over his letter of resignation to the Minister on the 4th of this month.

Minister Yapa expressed his views with regard to the Chairman’s resignation as well.
