Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that the elections of the North, North Western and Central Provincial Councils will be held between 7am to 4pm on September 21st.
He said that 4.3 million 58 thousand 263 voters have been registered this time to elect 142 members for the 3 PCs.
3,785 candidates from 19 political parties and 75 independent groups have handed over nominations to contest the elections for the 3 Provincial Councils in the North, North Western and Central Provinces.
Among the main parties are UPFA, UNP, JVP, Democratic Party, SLMC, Janasetha Front and Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi.
Nominations of 11 political parties and 9 independent groups of the Jaffna District which submitted nominations for the Northern Provincial Council have been accepted.
Jaffna District Election Office stated that the nominations of the National Development Front and Our National Front were rejected.
Nominations of 17 political parties and 4 independent groups of the Kandy District, 13 political parties and 7 independent groups of the Matale District and 14 political parties and 10 independent groups of the Nuwara Eliya District were also submitted for the Central Provincial Council election.
Apart from nominations of one independent group of the Nuwara Eliya District, nominations of all other parties and independent groups for the Central Provincial Council have been accepted.
Meanwhile 29 political parties and 24 independent groups from the Puttalam and Kurunegala Districts submitted nominations for the North Western Provincial Council election.
Among them, the nominations of the National Development Front and the New Democratic Front were rejected.
