An officer of the WHO is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka next week to investigate the new mosquito of the dengue species discovered by the Borella Medical Research Institute.

Secretary of the Health Service Assistant Entomologists Association Najith Sumanasena said that the aim of the WHO official’s visit is to obtain technical advice to spread this anti-dengue mosquito species.

The new mosquito found in Kalutara area has a white strip on its head.

According to the preliminary investigations, unlike the other mosquitoes, the new mosquito has two food pipes beside its head which helps the insect to take food easily.

The new mosquito is the 17th variety discovered in Sri Lanka after 124 years.
