Special transport facilities for voters with bodily frailty.

Thursday, 08 August 2013 - 7:58

The Election Secretariat says that persons physically feeble for voting in the North, North Western and Central provinces could request for special transport facilities.

Issuing a communiqué, the Election Secretariat points out that if a person suffering from a bodily frailty is unable to go to the polling booth by public transport, a request could thus be made for special transport facilities.

The Election Secretariat said that accordingly this request should be submitted to the Returning Officer in writing.

It is stated that this application should be submitted before 13th September.

It is also necessary that the applicant attaches to this application a certificate from a registered physician affirming that the applicant is unable to go to the polling booth via public transport.

Meanwhile Registration of Persons Commissioner General R. M. Sarath Kumaara said that persons who had not obtained national identity cards yet, could obtain them from the mobile services carried out in the areas concerned.
