A registered list of tamed elephants which was safe kept in the possession of the Wildlife Department has been misplaced.

The list of elephants had been maintained by the Legal Davison headed by the department’s Deputy Director Chandanee Wilson.

Speaking to our news team Wilson said that the misplacement of the particular list would not lead to a crisis situation as each tamed elephant has its separate file.

When our news team contacted subject Minister Gamini Vijith Vijayamuni Soyza he said that he suspects the incident is a theft.

He also said that he informed the President regarding the incident today.

However environmentalist exposed that certain temples and some eminent persons have kept unregistered tame elephants in their possession.

The Biodiversity Conservation Center suspects that there was a connection between the misplacement of the tame elephants list and the keeping of tame elephants unregistered by individual parties.
