The bus unions have decided to increase the bus fare by 10 per cent.

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’  Union says that it was decided to make this bus fare revision in accordance with the legal right the bus unions have since the relevant bus fare had not been amended this year according to the national policy.

Union chairman Gaemunu Wijeratna told our news team that his board of directors would meet and take a final decision about it today.

Meanwhile the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Union Federation Executive Committee too is scheduled to meet today to take a final decision with regard to the fare revision.

Federation Secretary Anjana Priyanjith told our news team that his union too expects a bus fare increase.

Our attempt to contact Private Bus Transport Minister C. B.Ratnayake, the Ministry Secretary and the National Transport Commission Chairman for information about the fare revision the bus unions hope to make , was futile as these sources did not respond to our telephone calls.
