Leader of the Indigenous community Uruwarige Wannila Aththo states that the authorities mislead the indigenous community by stating that he will be provided a new vehicle.
He stated that the minister of cultural affairs and other authorities are saying contradicting facts regarding the vehicle.
The minister of cultural affairs T. B. Ekanayaka had promised at the beginning of 2012 to provide a vehicle to the leader of the Indigenous community Uruwarige Wannila Aththo to facilitate his travels.
Although the vehicle was supposed to be presented at the ceremony organized to commemorate the World Indigenous People’s day on the 9th of this month it was not presented.
Leader of the indigenous community Uruwarige Wannila Aththo expressed the following views in this regard.
Upon inquiry by our news team, the Minister of cultural affairs T. B. Ekanayaka had the following to say.
However Uruwarige Wannila Aththo states the Minister of Cultural Affairs stated that 400,000 rupees were spent on Beetle leaves during the ceremony organized to commemorate the World Indigenous People’s day.
Certain newspapers too carried stories in this regard.
However Wannila Aththo stated that a friend in Kegalle supplied to Beetle leaves free of charge.
