100000 food items containing whey protein removed from the market

The Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Association states that during the past 48 hours 99,641 food items containing whey protein have been removed from the market.

Deputy Secretary of the association B. Muthukuda stated that Milk powder, chocolate, cheese and food items containing cheese were among the food items removed.

The Health Services Director General informed vendors and manufacturers on the 12th of this month to remove all milk powders and nutritional supplementary food items containing whey protein till further notice.

A notification issued by the ministry of health stated that since a bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum is contained in food items containing whey protein, till tests regarding all those food items are concluded sale of such food items are temporarily banned till further notice.
