The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navy PIllai arrived in the Country today on a 7 day official visit.
She arrived on board a Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Frankfurt in Germany at around 9.50 this morning.
She is scheduled to meet with several political party representatives and is also scheduled to tour the North and East before she leaves on the 31st.
Meanwhile, speaking at a media briefing that was held today in Colombo, JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayaka stated that inviting the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights was an indication of the contradicting stance of the government.
Navy Pillai will compile a report on Sri Lanka which will be presented to the UNHRC Sessions in September.
We also spoke to Sri Lanka’s Special Envoy on Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarsinghe regarding the visit of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
