Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that the government has decided to close down the telegram service by the end of next October.

During a media briefing held in Colombo today, the Minister said that the use of fixed lines and mobile telephones have rapidly gone up.

The Sri Lankan telegram service was inaugurated in 1858 between Colombo and Galle.
