4 army officers released from position over the Waliweriya incident.

A brigadier and 3 Lieutenant Colonels who were in charge of the area at the time of the Weliweriya incident have been released from their current positions in order to facilitate further investigations.

Earlier Army Commander Daya Rathnayaka appointed a Committee to investigate the Weliweriya incident.

He has taken this decision after studying the preliminary report submitted by the Investigative Committee.

Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said that the particular brigadier and the 3 Lieutenant Colonels will be summoned to their regiment to hold an inquiry in this regard.

However the preliminary reports stated that the troops have gone to Weliweriya on a call by the police.

The Army will assist the case in connection with the incident which is being heard in the Gampaha Magistrate Court.

Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said that the Army Commander has ordered to follow the Court verdict and act accordingly.
