A group of election monitors comprising 20 members will arrive in Sri Lanka on the 13th to monitor the elections for the Northern, Northwestern and Central Provincial Councils.
M. Gopala Swami, a former Election Commissioner of India will lead the visiting team of international election monitors.
The Election Commissioner of Maldives Mohammed Farook will also represent the mission.
The other monitors are from SAARC countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan and Bhutan.
Election Secretariat sources say that the major focus of the monitors will be the Northern Province where the inaugural election for the Provincial Council will be held on the 21st.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of PAFFEREL Rohana Hettiarachchi says that 8 representatives from the Asian Election Monitoring Mission will arrive on the 13th.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission has decided to conduct inquiries in to the activities of the state officials during the provincial polls.
