The Health Ministry today decided to remove all bottled drinking water being sold under the unregistered brand names Amaron and Ceylon Water from the market.

 

Issuing a statement the ministry stated that it has also decided to file cases against the two firms processing the bottled water.

 

Meanwhile, the Health Services Director General has issued instructions to all Provincial Health Service Directors and Regional Health Service Directors to provide a report regarding firms processing bottled drinking water within two weeks.

 

Health Services Director General Dr. Maheepala Herath has issued instructions to pay special attention to whether the firms in question have been registered at the Ministry of Health.

 

Gold FM news was the first to reveal on the 5th of September that bottled drinking water being sold in Pettah contained various oils and grease.

 

This information was revealed following tests carried out by the Government Analyst at the behest of the Consumer Affairs Authority.

 

Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam stated that dottled drinking water brands registered with the Ministry of Health contains the characters CSA or BW and if there are any issues concerning the standards of bottled drinking water sold within the Colombo City Limits consumers should inform the Public Health Division of the CMC by calling 0112 676161.

 

Deputy Chairman of the Public Health Inspectors Association B. Muthukuda stated that according to instructions issued by the Health Services Director General, island wide raids will be conducted with regard to firms that are processing bottled drinking water that have below par standards.
