The Colombo Chief Magistrate issued a notice on former CJ Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake today preventing her from leaving the country without Court permission.
The case against the former CJ was taken before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya to hand over the charge sheets to the former CJ in connection with 3 cases filed by the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption.
The former CJ appeared before the Court today assisted by over 100 lawyers including the members of the Sri Lanka Bar Association.
Appearing on behalf of the former CJ, Attorney-at-law Naleen Ladduwahetti said that charges against Dr. Bandaranayake could impose only a 1000 rupee fine if the respondent found guilty.
Meanwhile State Counsel Dilan Rathnayake said that he was ready to maintain the case against the former CJ on computer evidence.
The summons with regard to the 3 cases scheduled to be handed over to the respondent party today.
The case will be taken for hearing again on the 19th of January next year.
