The Police Elections Bureau says that 129 persons have been arrested in relation to election malpractices and election violence.

The most number of complaints have been received from the central Province while in total 163 complaints have been received.

Meanwhile, Election Monitoring Groups say that a rise in election violence is witnessed as the Provincial council elections of the North, North Western and Central Province draws closer.

Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi stated that a large number of incidents were reported from Kurunegala.

Meanwhile, the South Asian Group of election observers will commence their monitoring activities from the North today.
