Brothers and sisters and relatives of politicians currently representing the Government and the Opposition had contested the provincial council election this time.
In the Matale District Minister Janaka Bandaara Thennakoon’s son Pramitha Bandaara Thennakoon secured the first place in the UPFA list obtaining 51 thousand 591 preferential votes.
Deputy Transport Minister Rohana Dissanayake’s brother Paraakrama Dissanayake won the third place in the UPFA’s Matale District securing 24 thousand and 686 preferential votes.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Nandimitra Ekanayake’s son Chintaka Ekanayake too also won a place in the UPFA list.
MP Wasantha Aluvihaare’s brother Ranjith Aluvihaare won the first place in the UNP’s Matale District list.
Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratna’s son Anuradha Jayaratna who contested from the Kandy district too won the first place in that district.
Minister S. B. Dissanayake’s elder brother Saaliya Dissanayake who contested from the Nuwara Eliya District as a UPFA candidate failed to gain a place in the council
