The person who obtained bail for UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake in the latter’s Forex Regulations Violation case has withdrawn from the case saying that he has no longer faith in MP Karunanayake.

The bail applicant Karunapala Silva has served MP Ravi Karunanayake for 13 years as his Political Coordinating Officer.

MP Karunanayake was indicted in the Colombo High Court for breaching the Exchange Control Act, aiding and abetting to deposit 3 million US dollars in a Private Bank.

The money was deposited without the Central Bank permission in the years 2006 and 2007.

When this case was taken before the Court today, Karunapala Silva sought the Court permission to withdraw his bail money of 100 thousand rupees.

Karunapala Silva’s lawyer informed the Court that MP Karunanayake has sacked his client without paying his wages, and a complaint with that regard has also been lodged with the Labour Tribunal.
