External Affairs Ministry Secretary Karunatillake Amunugama says that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay has no right to issue a deadline for a probe on human rights allegations.

He said that it is the government that would take decisions related to the matter.

The External Affairs Ministry Secretary stated that certain points raised in the report by Navy Pillai had already been fulfilled by the government.

Navy Pillay had said in her report that if the government does not address human rights concerns by March 2014 she believes the international community will have a duty to establish its own inquiry mechanisms.

Meanwhile, President Mahinda Rajapaksa in an interview with Al Jazeera channel stated that certain groups were engaged in a campaign against Sri Lanka.
