UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayake has decided to resign from the post of UNP Kundasaaley electorate organizer.
UNP sources said that the MP had handed over his letter of resignation to Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe yesterday.
However there is no firm report yet as to whether the Opposition Leader had accepted the resignation.
General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has informed in the resignation letter that he had taken this decision in coincidence with the UNP losing the Kundasaaley seat at the recent provincial council election.
MP Tissa Attanayake has mentioned in the letter that the loss of the Kundasale seat should be attributed to him and not to the party leader.
At the provincial council election this time the UNP lost the Kundasale seat by about 18,000 votes.
The UPFA secured 31, 606 votes.
However the UNP was able to win only 13, 136 votes.
