Ministry of Health prepares to remove drug supply monopoly

The ministry of health states that a special plan of action is being put in place to combat the pharmaceutical drug supply monopoly in the country and also to purchase pharmaceutical drugs.

 

The director of the Cosmetics, Devices & Drugs Regulatory Authority Dr. Hemantha Benaragama stated that in accordance with the new plan, a new methodology to directly purchase drugs from countries such as Bangladesh and Thailand will be put in place following discussions with those countries.

 

Numerous occasions where firms importing pharmaceutical drugs importing substandard drugs were reported in the recent past and as a result the substandard drugs were removed from circulation on several occasions.

 

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Maithreepala Sirisena states that everyone should contribute towards safeguarding the National Drug Policy.

 

The minister made this statement while speaking at the Professor Senaka Bibile Commemoration Ceremony held for the 30th time.
