59 Ministers and MPs ready to support - says UNP

During yesterday’s clashes 8 United National Party activists were wounded and one of them who was seriously wounded has been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital this morning.

 

A spokesperson for the National Hospital stated that he had suffered a gunshot wound in the torso area.

 

Two more are receiving treatment at the Matara General Hospital and the Southern Provincial Councilor Krishantha Pushpakumara who also suffered a gunshot wound continues to be treated at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

 

Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe today visited the injured UNP activists at the Karapitiya Hospital.

 

At the hospital Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe inquired into the wellbeing of Southern Provincial Councilor Krishantha Pushpakumara.

 

UNP general secretary Thissa Attanayaka who was present as well spoke to the media and stated that former UNP party members Maithree Gunarathne and Shiral Lakthilaka are responsible for the clash that occurred.

 

However, speaking at a press conference held in Galle today Maithree Gunarathne stated that he is prepared to give up his provincial council membership if it is proven that his father is a presidential advisor.

 

The national organizer of the UNP Daya Gamage said 59 Ministers and MPs are ready to leave if the UNP can recertify its shortcomings.

 

He made the following statement with regard to yesterday’s incident during a press conference held at the party headquarters at Sirikotha.

 

However, speaking at a press conference held in Galle the Southern Provincial Chief Minister Shan Wijeylal De Silva stated that he condemns the clash that took place between the UNP supporters yesterday.
