The Disaster Management Center today warned that sea areas off the coast from Jaffna to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle will be rough at times as the wind speed may increase up to 80 kilo meters per hour.

According to the Department of Meteorology showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea area off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Galle and Hambantota.

A risk of an increase in wind speeds

The MET Department says that showers and strong winds can be experienced in the Western slopes of the Central hills due to the Paileen storm prevalent in the Bay of Bengal.

Duty Meteorologist Anusha Warnasuriya stated that the storm was located 1100 KM’s North East from Jaffna.

As a result showers can be experienced along with strong winds in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces.

Also wind speeds along the coast extending from Jaffna to Hambantota could reach 80 KM per hour.
