UPDATE: Bus owners to hold discussion on bus fairs

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association says that they would hold a discussion today regarding the decision taken by the government to increase bus fares by 7 percent.

 

Minister of Private Transport C B Ratnayaka stated that bus fares will be increased by 7 percent with effect from November 1st.

 

However, the Secretary of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Associations Federation Anjana Priyanjith says that a 7 percent increase is not sufficient and called for a 10% increase.

Bus unions oppose new bus fare amendment; Unions to take combined action.

Lanka private bus owner’s federation states that all the bus unions will take island wide action against the 7 percent private bus fare increase.

 

Secretary of the Union Anjana Priyanjith states that his union does not agree to the 7 percent bus fare increase.

 

We inquired about this decision from the chairman of the Lanka private bus owner’s association Gamunu Wijerathna.

 

Gamunu Wijerathne stated that the executive committee will meet tomorrow and decide its future line of action.

Bus fares to be increased by 7% from November 1st

Minister of Private Transport Services C. B. Rathnayake said today that Private bus fares will be increased by 7 per cent with effect from November 01st.
