UPDATE : No offence committed - remain with the party - Say SLFP suspended members Dharmasiri and Nimalasiri.

The SLFP has decided to hold a disciplinary inquiry against the 2 UPFA PC members who acted against the party collective decision.

A senior SLFP member told our news team that this decision was taken during the SLFP Central Working Committee meeting presided by President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday night.

The party has also suspended the membership of Dharmasiri Dasanayake who contested and won the North Western PC Chairman position and L.D. Nimalasiri who contested the Chairman post in the Central Provincial Council but defeated.

During the North Western PC inaugural meeting held on October 11th, its Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera’s proposal to appoint UPFA Indrani Dasanayake was challenged by another proposal by the UNP to appoint UPFA Dharmasiri Dasanayake.

Later the Council had to hold a secret vote and Dharmasiri Dasanayake obtained 30 votes to defeat Chief Minister’s proposal Indrani Dasanayake by 8 votes.

In similar circumstances, the Central Provincial Council also had to hold a secret vote after the UNP proposed UPFA member L.D. Nimalasiri against the government proposal during its inaugural meeting on October 9th.

Government nominee Mahinda Abeykoon just won the CP Chairman position by mere 2 majority votes as his party rival L.D. Nimalasiri obtained 27 votes in the secret vote taking.

Our news team contacted North Western PC Chairman Dharmasiri Dasanayake to comment on the party decision to suspend him from the membership.

He said that he never acted against the government.

Our news team also contacted L.D. Nimalasiri on the party decision to hold a disciplinary inquiry against him and suspension of his party membership.

He said that he will remain with the party and continue to support the government.
