The Disaster Management Center stated that nearly 2000 persons belonging to 430 families in 7 districts have been affected due to the prevailing inclement weather.

Among the affected districts are Galle, Nuwara Eliya, Kalutara, Colombo, Ampara, Jaffna and Mullaitivu.

The Meteorology Department warned of thundershowers during the next few days due to an atmospheric disturbance over the country.

Duty Meteorologist Jeewan Karunarathna said thundershowers will be fairly widespread during the eveining or night today.

The Meteorology Department warned of thundershowers during the next few days due to an atmospheric disturbance over the country.

The Department said the inter monsoonal conditions are gradually establishing over the country with atmospheric disturbances in the vicinity.

Duty Meteorologist Jeewan Karunarathna said thundershowers will be fairly widespread during the afternoon or night today.

The met department states that most parts of the island will experience rain of approximately 100 millimetres accompanied by thunder due to turbulence in the atmosphere around the island.

Speaking to our news team, duty meteorologist Jeevan Karunarathne stated that thundershowers will be accompanied by strong winds as well.

He also requested the public to take precaution against lightening during this period.

The met department has also forecasted thundershowers in the evening or night in Colombo, Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Galle, Jaffna, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Trincomalee and Mannar districts.

Meanwhile, speaking to our news team, the residents of the Monaragala – Sudu-wathu-aaragama region stated that a shower of fish occurred in the morning.
