The archaeological department states that there are over 250 thousand identified archaeological sites in Sri lanka.

Director General of the department Dr Senarath Dissanayaka addressing a media briefing yesterday stated that the department has only examined 20 thousand sites so far.

Director General speaking further stated that the staff in the department is not adequate.
