President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the government’s intention is to improve the entire school network throughout the country to better level against the popular school concept.
He said that he is humbly proud of rural children who excelled equally to their city counterparts in order to pursue higher education.
President Rajapaksa was speaking to a group of children from Vavuniya district who excelled in the year-5 examination and visited Temple Trees today.
After greeting all the visiting students, the President gave directives to the authorities to improve the school facilities in Vavuniya district including appointing sufficient number of teachers to needy schools.
Meanwhile, for the first time in the Piriven education system, a program to felicitate the monks who excel in the Piriven final examination has been introduced.
Under this program 10 monks who scored top marks have been selected for an excursion in Korea.
President Media Unit stated that President Rajapaksa handed over the free air-tickets to these monks in Colombo today.
