The Matale Magistrate Court has ordered that bone fragments of the mass human grave found in the Matale hospital grounds be sent to a foreign country for determining the period they belong to.
Accordingly Matale Court Medical Officer Ajith Jayasena told our news team that steps would be taken to send six bone fragments randomly selected out of the 154 bone fragments recovered from the mass grave to a laboratory situated in Beijing in China.
The court physician said further that even by now research was being carried out with regard to the bone fragments recovered from the mass grave.
This mass human grave was detected in the Matale hospital grounds on 23rd November, 2012 during excavations carried out for constructing a bio-gas unit there.
In researches a team including Professor Raaj Somadeva of the Kelaniya University Postgraduate Institute carried out with regard to them, it was revealed that these bone fragments belong to the period from 1987 to 1990.
