Expressing his views to our news team, Palitha stated that MP Karu Jayasuriya has betrayed them by accepting the position of the Chairman in the UNP Leadership Council.
However, regarding this matter the United Bhikku Front holds a different standpoint.
When inquired, the Advisor of United Bhikku Front Girabe Ananda thero said they approve the appointment.
Meanwhile, taking part in the press conference UNP general secretary parliamentarian Thissa Attanayaka stated that the United Bhikku Front has begun discussions to bring the members of the leadership committee together.

The new found United Leadership Council of the UNP convened its inaugural media briefing in Colombo today.
Addressing the media, the Council President MP Karu Jayasuriya said the time is ripe to make the party victorious and all should realize a lengthy slack period was also over.
The party has cast 19 powers and responsibilities on the United Leadership Council.
Among them are preparation of policies and national strategies for all level of the party membership, to introduce a new campaign program to increase the party membership and, the appointment of electoral organizers and a nomination board with the consultation of the Party Leader.
However MP Thalatha Athukorale says that she would not accept the membership in the United Leadership Council.
MP Athukorale told our news team that she would accept the appointment if the proposals submitted by her to the Working Committee Meeting with regard to the United Leadership Council are implemented.
Meanwhile a discussion was held between Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and United Bhikku Front Patron Girambe Ananda Anunayake Thera.
It is reported that the Opposition Leader and the Anunayake Thera have further discussed about the future actions of the United Leadership Council during the meeting.

UNP leadership council appointed, Chairman Karu, Sajith resigns, Ranil National leader.
The UNP Leadership Council was set up at the Working Committee Meeting held yesterday.
MPs Tissa Attanayake, Mangala Samaraweera,Sajith Premadasa, Ravi Karunanayake, Ruvan Wijewardhana, Thalathaa Athukorala, Lakshman Kiriella and Kabir Hasheem were appointed for the leadership council with MP Karu Jayasuriya as Chairman.
In addition it was decided at the working committee meeting held to appoint Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe as the UNP national leader.
Expressing his views at a media briefing held after the working committee meeting, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe stated that the party has reached a historical decision and the working committee has handed over the powers vested with the party leader to the leadership board.
Meanwhile after the Working Committee meeting, MP Sajith Premadasa told journalists that he had decided to resign from the working committee because of remises in the appointment of the leadership council.
However Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe said that he was inviting all who had left the party to rejoin it for the sake of the party’s victory.
The meeting commenced at the UNP Headquarters around 4.30 this evening and aims to discuss and nominate the Supreme Council.
UNP party sources reported that Tissa Attanayake, Sajith Premadasa, Kabeer Hashim, Thalatha Athukorala, Lakshman Kiriella, Wijedasa Rajapakse as well as Asmi Thasim are among the nominees.

3rd round of discussions among Ranil, Karu and Sajith ends
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe met MPs Karu Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa at Opposition Leader’s Office this morning.
Proceedings of the third round of the meeting, which spanned for forty minutes, revolved around the proposed new mechanism for steering UNP towards the path of success.
The UNP sources reported that during the past few weeks Opposition Leader has held discussions with the Maha Sangha, key members of the party as well as other factions.
The facts and agreements of the discussions are to be submitted in detail before the Working Committee meeting this evening to reach a final decision.

The final discussion prior to submitting to the working committee the proposed new machinery for positioning the UNP on a victorious path is scheduled to be held this forenoon.
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and MPs Karu Jayasuriya and Sajith Premadasa will participate in this discussion.
Prior to this on several occasions several rounds of discussion were held among them.
UNP MP Gamini Jayawickrema Perera said that the results of the discussion this forenoon were scheduled to be submitted to the working committee this afternoon.
In response to a query by our news team, the MP said that accordingly a solution to the crisis that has currently cropped up in the UNP was expected from the above results.
