The Fisheries Ministry requests the fishing community to refrain from crossing the Indian maritime boundary when sailing to the international sea.

In response to a query of our news team, Deputy Fisheries Minister Sarath Kumara Gunarathne said that these days an operation of arresting Sri Lankan fishermen crossing the Indian sea boundary to enter the International waters was being implemented.

Therefore the Deputy Fisheries Minister requested that the Maldive Islands sea limit be used for entering the international sea limit.

Even by now the Indian Coastal Security Authority has apprehended eight Sri Lankan multi-day fishing trawlers and 50 fishermen, when sailing towards the international waters through the Indian sea boundary.
