Education Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake says that stern action will be taken against teachers who go beyond the limit and behave against the accepted norms within the practice of the school system.
When our news team questioned the Ministry Secretary whether the Ministry would take any action against the adamant behavior of some teachers, the Secretary said that prompt steps will be taken to hold inquiries on complaints made against such teachers.
Several incidents of cruel punishments on students by certain teachers were reported from different parts of the island during the last few days.
The latest incident was reported from Aralaganwila, Wila Yaya Maha Vidyalaya on Friday when a Grade 11 student was hospitalized after he was beaten by a lady teacher for bringing food to school wrapped in polythene.
Meanwhile, principal of the Aralaganwila, Wila Yaya Maha Vidyalaya Sukith Ranasinghe said that 2 inquiries, one at school level and the other one at departmental level have been initiated in connection with the incident.
On the same day, another similar incident of child harassment was reported from the Weligama Denipitiya Maha Vidyalaya when a teacher had cut the trouser of a Grade 11 student saying that it was too tight on him.
Ironically, family sources said that it was the only trouser that the particular student had in his possession.
